It's synonymus with summer in the Hampton's and Elite Ivy Leauge School.
We are of course talking about the preppy style.
In the late 70's and through the 80's, athletic inspired apparel
in kelly green and pink dominated the fashion scene.
Inspired by the school uniforms from the old New England prep schools
and Ivy League colleges, fashion designers like J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and J. Press
introduced the essence of prep to the rest of the world.
And for that we are grateful.

True pioneers of preppy.
Where to begin? In the endless array of brands, opinions and how-to guides.
Here is our basics for the preppy wardrobe anno 2011.
One again with one each week, just to make sure you are not overwhelmed.
The colorful polo
The colorful polo is an absolute essentiel when it comes to dressing preppy.
The polo has been a part of the preppy apparel since the late 70's and that is not about to change.
Choose one in a bright color, throw a cable-knit sweater over your shoulders and you're good to go.
The Nantucket Red's
The epidemy of prep. Nantucket red's from Murray's toggery Shop in Nantucket.
The idea comes from the uniform of the New york Yacht Club uniform. These pants were adopted by Ivy League students and and preppy dressers all over the world.
The trademarked color, fades to a light pink with age.
The Nantucket red's are still going strong and it can only be recommended that you buy the originals. They can be bought online and they ship worldwide.
The regiment and/or crested tie
The old prep schools and Ivy League university has a tie as a mandatory part of the uniform. Therefore has ties been a part of the preppy style for decades. Regiment (the one with the stripes) and crested ties are the only way to go.
preppy ties arevery often, if not always, a bit more dandy than what you would where to the office. The red tie with the white and blue stripes are a classic.
If you have a bit more guts you can opt for the crested ties, which gives it a bit more attitude.

Duffle or duffel? Both are equally right. The fabric, from which the coat is made is called duffle, and the place where the fabric was invented was Duffel in Holland. Either way, come winter and your trenchcoat might not be a wise choice any more. Enter the dufflecoat. The wool coat has been adapted by the prepster and is still seen everywhere.
The one on the picture is from Montgomery, retails for $ 392.
If you are not quite feeling the camel, try one in tartan for a more sporty look.
Every man owns a watch, but few has one like this. A striped nato strap watch.
